I am popping in to share a card for Scrapbook.com's Christmas in July Celebration! Today's card features the new Snowflakes dies paired with the Block Outline Christmas Dies, a soon-to-be favorite in my Christmas cardmaking stash.
To create this card, I started by cutting a piece of the top panel to fashion a window for my layered snowflakes. I then set the panel aside to start diecutting my snowflakes from shades of red cardstock. Since the diecut snowflakes are intricate, I recommend diecutting the snowflakes several times and layering them to add heft and dimension. I diecut a few of the snowflakes from glitter cardstock to add a bit of festive flare. However, since the glitter cardstock is on a plastic-like backer, be sure to use a metal shim to achieve a clean cut when diecutting. I diecut the "Merry" from various shades of red and layered the letters several times to add dimension. I finished the card with a simple "Christmas" sentiment heat embossed onto black cardstock using the Christmas Expressions stamp set.

I am hoping to get in a little scrapbooking this week, too! I have printed my pictures and pulled a few embellishments I am planning on using. I believe the Brooklyn Upper and Lower Case Alphabet stamp set should work out nicely.

Okay, when I am in the craft zone my craft space shrinks from its normal 6 feet space to a mere 12x12 space. And then the next thing I know, I need to clear space so that I can ink a background, do stenciling work or add a few watercolor splatters. Yeah, this is not going to work. Introducing the water media mat from Waffle Flower. Now, the water media mat from Waffle Flower has been out for a little over a year; however, the mat is new to me (VIDEO HERE). The water media mat is perfect for clearing a clean space so that I can do a technique or two without clearing my entire workspace. The water media mat has a place to fit a 9x12 sheet of watercolor paper, or other paper medium. There is also a spot to hold your watercolors, including smooshing your mini-inks into the square tray. One of the downsides is that this mat does stain. The mat is meant to be used, so if a stained mat would drive you crazy then this might not be ideal for you.
To create my card, I started by using Waffle Flower's Big Dots stencil to create a rainbow of color. I then applied glitter paste on top to add a little sparkle. While the panel was drying, I diecut the word THANK using Heather's Uppercase Alphas from white and colored cardstock for the outlines. The word You is diecut from Pinkfresh Studio's Phrase Builder: You dies. I then layered my sentiment onto the rainbow panel and adhered this to an A2 top folding card base. And my rainbow THANK You card is complete. Simple but pretty.

On My Desk| Scrapbook.com Cardstock Collection, Stencils and Craftroom Tools

Happy Friday! This weekend I will be carving out a little time in my craftroom to continue playing with goodies from Scrapbook.com. This month I am creating with the new color palettes from the Playful, Jewels, Roses, and other colorful collections. The new stencils provide a creative chance to try a few mixed media ideas. And I would love to see if I cannot do something interesting with the new acetate sheets from Scrapbook.com.

Can we talk craft room organization? I LOVE organizing my creative space. In a house full of men, my craft room is a place where I am free to play with color, display my collection of pretty, delicate items and just spend a little quiet time letting my creativity lead me down a path of discovery.
I have not always had a dedicated craft space. As a military family, space can be at a premium. However, I have always carved out a space to create whether it was a small kitchen table with a rolling bag of supplies, a leaky basement in base housing, or now a little piece of creative heaven. My craftroom is not very large, so making sure I find creative and flexible storage solutions is key to getting the most out of my space.
Finding workable solutions for my growing paper collection is important. As a design team member for several companies, I like to organize my paper pads by each company and keep paper collections together (ephemera, enamel dots, and 6x6 paper pads). I used the Tall Sticker Organizer from Scrapbook.com to house my Pinkfresh Studio paper collections and Scrapbook.com cardstock paper pads. I made a few modifications to make the Tall Sticker Organizers work for me by using styrofoam to create risers and used the white-tabbed dividers to separate my paper collections. The 6x8 Paper Pad Holder easily accommodates several 6x8 paper pads.
With a variety of sizes, the envelopes are perfect for organizing single projects, multiple stamps and dies, and keeping my scrapbooking photos and DT assignments in order. I keep my filled storage envelopes in stackable paper trays for easy access as I work on my monthly assignments.
